What Is Happening at Headwaters Health Care?

OAG Members kicked off their Art Rotation at the Headwaters Hospital Display on August 26, 2017. From the Chinese paper-making avant-garde creations of Del Foxton to the photography of Jeffrey Nagy; from the watercolour creations of Zig Elles, the acrylics of Linda Robertson, the palette-knife oil painting landscapes of Warren Galloway, the diversity of styles and media is amply represented here. And… All are for Sale! “Owning original art has unequivocally positive effects for those who own it. New 2017 Leadership Role!

Hello fellow artists, Martina Skuce here … The OAG had its Annual Meeting a while back.  Board members were announced and vacancies were discussed.  The position of President is now open. First, I’d like to thank Anne Jordan for doing an amazing job leading the group for  the past couple of years.  She was a dedicated President and her leadership, enthusiasm and stamina will be greatly missed!  She leaves the OAG in great shape. Now getting to my point… We have many excellent members in our group but most lead busy lives and it’s difficult to commit to a leadership role.  Therefore, we were wondering if the role of president could be taken on by a group of people.  I’m not sure how we could set it  up but if there’s anyone out there who’d like to get together to talk about how we might set up the new leadership position of the Art Group, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks so much.  I look forward to hearing from you! Contact: Martina Skuce, Membership Coordinator, peoniemartina@gmail.com

ARTSVEST

OAG has participated in ArtsVest, a program to train arts groups to improve their sponsorship and governance. As a result we are pleased to announce that we have increased our sponsorships this year, and that ArtsVest will be matching our funds by adding another $3000.00. We want to thank our generous sponsors, Orangeville Kinsmen (Kin), Scotiabank, and Metroland media/the Banner, and the Town of Orangeville – for helping us to achieve this goal. New funds will be used for an arts scholarship to an emerging artist, to be administered with the Kin, and to hold events in which families can participate in making art. More to follow on these exciting projects.

New Workshop: “Big Skies” With JohnDavid Anderson

Spend another day with JohnDavid Anderson, who describes himself as a Canadian contemporary impressionist. His previous workshops in were great successes, with waiting lists. JohnDavid paints tonally with rich colour and an impressionist character. He is not driven by the subject but by the light. JohnDavid likes to paint alla prima (all in one session), perfect for a workshop, to keep the painting fresh, loose, colourful and gestural. This workshop is directed to how to paint moving water. Learn how to get away from static water that looks like a piece of plastic, and make it move. Add vibrancy and life to the water in your paintings. If you are painting a waterfall or a stream, make it come alive, be real. The demonstrations will be conducted using oil paints. However, participants may bring the painting medium of their choice. JohnDavid paints in both oils and acrylics. JohnDavid is a resident of Stayner and is an award-winning artist and teacher. He conducts many workshops, including teaching in the summer program at the Haliburton campus of Fleming College. He manages a fine arts store in Barrie. Note: *** REGISTERATION OPENS DECEMBER 1ST*** for this workshop. When: Saturday January 16, 2016 Time:

Fall Harvest of Colour Show Winners

A hearty thanks to our juror, Judy Daley, Helson Gallery Curator. She has written these comments about the winning pieces in the show: People’s Choice Visitors to the show cast 257 ballots for the People’s Choice Award. The winners are: Tied for 1st place: John Walsh “This Changes Everything” Martina Skuce “Bathing Beauties” Tied for 2nd place: Robert Chisholm “Dancing Leaves” Warren Galloway “After the Storm” 3rd place: Sherryl Hopper “Passeggiatta”   Honourable Mentions Emilia Perri: Horses on Fire I was struck by the frieze-like composition of this work and the subtle overlayering of colour and texture employed by the artist.  The work is reminiscent of prehistoric cave paintings yet the artist has found a new interpretation of her subject that expresses something of the beauty and magical power of wildlife. Helga Smolders: The Last Song This small but powerful male nude study intrigues on several levels and allows us to consider the ‘female gaze’ after so many centuries of male artists interpreting the nude female figure. The artist has deftly handled the lighting and the guitar lying on the bed beside the figure is an added element of interest, its shape and colour echoing the model’s form. Robert Chisholm: The Homestead I was drawn
