For over 60 years, the Orangeville Art Group has been supporting artists and the arts in Orangeville and the Headwaters region. The not-for-profit organization is membership-based and is focused on education and artistic development. In addition to providing opportunities for its members to display and sell their works, OAG offers workshops and events to encourage skill development while building connections and support in the community.
The OAG has a mandate:
· To provide a forum for the mutual benefit of artists and artisans in the community;
· To provide opportunities for members to nurture creativity, improve their skills, and to display and sell original work;
· To contact and exchange ideas with other organizations, and to cooperate with such other organizations for mutual benefit;
· To become known in and be of benefit to the community.
The OAG’s vibrant membership of 100 artists represents all levels of skill and experience and a diversity of styles and media: 2-dimensional visual art in oil, acrylics, watercolour, photography, and mixed media; 3-dimensional art in jewelry, pottery and ceramics, sculpture, and fabric art.
A highlight of OAG’s initiatives is the annual art show held in October, featuring works in watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastels, and other mediums as well as pottery, jewelry, and sculpture. The 49th Annual Show, the Autumn Artistry Art Show, took place on Culture Days weekend September 28-29, 2019. It was hosted at Orangeville’s historic Town Hall.
The OAG also displays and sells the work of its artists at local and regional venues. Permanent exhibits include the main lobby of the Headwaters Health Care Centre. The display is changed every three months to provide visual enjoyment to all visitors to the hospital. The artists donate 20% of sales to the Headwaters Health Care Foundation.
