Zig Elles has been painting for approximately 12 years. Born and raised in downtown Toronto, he had a dream of someday moving away from the constricting confines of the city to the open spaces of rural Ontario. He has been a resident of the Orangeville area since 1976. He had a very early interest in art and photography and over the years has been to many art galleries including: The Prado in Madrid, The Rijks Museum in Amsterdam, MOMA in New York, Giverny outside of Paris, ( Monet’s home and studio, famous for Japanese bridge and lily pads. ), numerous art houses and shows and of course AGO. His close friend, colleague and accomplished artist, encouraged and mentored Zig, offering only positive comments for even his most simplest and basic efforts. Forever in his debt for giving him this wonderful pastime which he continue to enjoy to this day. Zig attended local art lessons from a number of local artists and found that he preferred watercolouring for its unpredictability. He has also taken courses online and lesson directly from art books. He is motivated by the challenge of creating and re-creating images from all mediums using a variety of watercolour techniques. Retired for 3 years from a Real Estate career spanning 40 years, he paints mostly in the fall and winter in Orangeville and Florida.
